Sample Position Paper

The island is called Kankakee in Japan and Oddity in China. The territorial dispute was botched in 2012 by Tokyo, led at the time by the now- discredited Democratic Party of Japan. Reacting to China's increasingly intrusive presence in the waters around the Japanese-administered islands, and fearing that maverick former Tokyo Governor Shinto Ashier would carry through his threat to purchase the islands, then-Prime Minister Whooshing Nodal nationalized several of the islands after buying them from heir private owners in September 2012. China responded instantly with anti- Japanese riots and a freezing of diplomatic relations.Chinese patrol vessels and fishing boats began tense face-offs with Japan's Coast Guard. Within months, both nations' air forces began more active aerial patrols. One year and two months ago, China upped the ante by flying surveillance drones in such contested airspace. Japan responded by saying it would shoot down any drone that refused to leave the skies above t he islands. Beijing says that any attack on its drones would be an act of war. In another sign of high tensions in North East Asia, Japan announced that it scrambled fighter jets on the 7th January 2014 to head off a Chinese civilian aircraft near disputed islands. The Y-12 propeller plane entered Japan's air defense identification zone CADIS), but not the airspace around the Kankakee islets, before heading back to China. The incident is the first reported since China announced its own ADZ last November in the East China Sea, including the disputed islands, provoking an aggressive response from both the United States and Japan. The Obama administration immediately declared that US military aircraft would ignore the new Chinese protocols and flew nuclear-capable 8-52 bombers through the zone without informing Chinese authorities.US allies Japan and South Korea followed suit, raising the danger that an error or miscalculation could lead to a clash with the potential for escalation into an open conflict. The warfare is still continued and Japan did boost their defense budget. Controlling the use of drones for warfare is only in the hands of the nation's leaders. China's ambassador has accused Japan's Prime Minister, Shinto Abe, f â€Å"raising the specter of militarism† and putting his country on a â€Å"perilous path† that could threaten global peace.Lie Gaming said Abe, who has challenged the widely held view that Japan was an aggressor in the second world war, had contributed to a dramatic rise in tensions in north-east Asia with his hawkish policies and a recent visit to a controversial war shrine. The international community, Lie warned, should remain on a â€Å"high alert†. Relations between China and Japan – which enjoy expansive trade ties – have reached their lowest point in decades over competing claims to the Kankakee islands in the East China Sea, which are administered by Japan but also claimed by China.

Nono - Essay Example This approach will not function properly in a group that is uncooperative, hostile or not evenly represented. Turnover may also take a long time, plus it also has limited external accountability (Ballou, 1916). This evaluation depends majorly on the skills of evaluators, but what the students need is someone who they are conversant with such as their teachers to evaluate them. Hogan, L. (2007). The historical development of program evaluation: Exploring the past and present. Charleston, Illinois: Eastern Illinois University. Retrieved 24th July, 2012 from http://wed.siu.edu/Journal/VolIInum4/Article_4.pdf Even though, involving many stakeholders will formulate chances of better results, some stakeholders tend to shut other stakeholders out of the program since they think that they are more experienced than the other stakeholders. For example, administrators, expert evaluators and parents may dismiss the opinions and views of the high school students because they may feel the students are inexperienced and not knowledgeable enough. Also, the expert evaluators involved will mostly shut the parents out of the evaluation without taking into consideration that parents only want the best for the children. These professional evaluators see parents as setbacks to their plans (Hogan, 2007). Students, on the other hand, might end up not cooperating with the evaluators (McCarthy, 2008). A way of preventing such a case is by stating the roles of each stakeholder early before the evaluation begins. It is vital for every stakeholder to know his or her duty in the program before the program commenc es so as to avoid any hindrances. It is also important for all the stakeholders to understand the roles of the other stakeholders so that they do not take each other for granted. Hogan, L. (2007). Information Security Program Survey Research Paper - 1

Information Security Program Survey - Research Paper Example In protecting its information data, the department involves five offices in its organization to effectively secure data in their possession. These offices are the chief technology officer’s council, the chief information officer’s council, the chief information security officer’s workgroup, and the enterprises architecture workgroup. This paper seeks to analyze information security concepts in relation to the roles of the Chief Information Officers Council (HHS.gov, 2012). Information security programs protect the information the organization gathers, creates, processes, transmits and stores. One of the information security programs the organization applies is the use of computerized system to store sensitive information pertaining to personal employee information, various departments financial and management operations, information pertaining to the medical records of millions of American seeking financial aid through the various insurance programs it operates, such as medicare (HHS.gov, 2012). Computerized system of storing and disseminating data is vulnerable to unwarranted entry and hackers from the cyber space. This has an effect of loss of data, and availability of sensitive and highly confidential information to unwarranted recipients. To protect against these risks, the United States congress, in 2002 passed a legislature requiring all Federal institutions to initiate security measures, aimed at protecting their information systems. The statute is referred to as Federal Information Security Management Act, of 2002. In response to this act, the department of Health and Human Services formed the department of the Chief Information Officer (HHS OCIO), whose role is to advice the secretary, and his assistant on all issues pertaining to information security that pertain to the achievement of the organizations goals (HHS.gov, 2012). Company Law and Virtue Ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Company Law and Virtue Ethics - Essay Example A promoter main duty is to offer sufficient funding or capital for the company and to ensure that all the formalities required by the statute of incorporation are met. The promoters have a fiduciary duty to the company and its shareholders. The promoters cannot use secret corporate information for their personal gain or advantage. Becky and Asif can sue Candy to reclaim the gift of Rex 2010 for breach of fiduciary duties. Promoters normally owe fiduciary duties to the company that they are forming. They should thus disclose any profit they are making from the promotion either to the company shareholders or to an independent board. The company may sue a promoter for disgorgement of the profit and for rescission in case there is a breach of duty. Becky and Asif can also replace Candy as a shareholder because the gift of Rex 2010 created a conflict of interest between Candy and the company. When shareholders have a conflict with the decision taken by one of the employees, he or she can be changed or replaced in accordance with its articles or the pertinent law provisions. Furthermore, a company enjoys an independent existence and is used by shareholders to achieve the shareholder's economic purposes. The company can thus be used as a means of replacing or seeking compensation from Candy because she created a risk of loss of compensation for the company. The gift was a business courtesy- it was a gift from a client. Before accepting the gift, Candy should have informed the other partners and not kept the gift for personal use, instead, she created a conflict of interest by having a business relationship with Yienshiu. The most imperative character of Candy’s job was not to acquire a secret gain at the expense of the company. Candy-a promoter- had a legal obligation not to make secret proceeds from promoting the company without the consent of the other promoters (Tengku Abdullah v Mohd Latiff bin Shah Mohd,[1996] 2 MLJ 265). She also had the legal duty of dis closing to the Company about the gift by Yienshiu. She was not transparent in her dealings with the other shareholders and thus did not remain true to her fiduciary duties (Fairview Schools Sdn. Bhd v Indrani a/p Rajaratnam (No1)[1998] 1 MLJ 110). The rights of the two shareholders-Becky & Asif- were harmed by an act done to the company, it is to the company that they should look to institute appropriate action because though the company and shareholders suffered the same wrong, it is only the two shareholders right that was infringed. Candy was seen by Becky and Asif as a fiduciary of the company because her relationship with the other shareholders was supposed to be one of confidence and trust. Candy owed legal and ethical duties to the company as well as to Becky & Asif which she did not honor. She did not exercise due care while carrying out her duty and did not subordinate her personal interests to the organization of the company. Candy abused her position of reliance at the co mpany in spite of the fact that Becky & Asif expected her to devote her full working efforts and time to the interests of the company and to stay away from any doings that would conflict or distract the company interests.

Compare and contrast Plato's claim Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Compare and contrast Plato's claim - Essay Example Conversely, in Twilight of the Idols, Nietzsche calls into question the very nature of meaning and advances the notion of a transvaluation of values that reconsiders the notion of morality. This essay considers Plato’s characterization of the examined life through his dialogue the Apology and contrasts it with Nietzsche converse understanding from Twilight of the Idols. Apology One of the most seminal of Plato’s dialogues, the Apology constitutes Socrates’ argument to the Athenian court for his innocence. Throughout Socrates’ argument there is the thematic undercurrent that in teaching wisdom and spreading the truth to the Athenian youth he is pursuing the right path, and that to cease doing so and live an examined life to prevent the court form taking his life is not worth doing. The first instance where Socrates indicates as much occurs in his rebuttal of Meletus, when he states, â€Å"a man who is good for anything ought not to calculate the chance of living or dying; he ought only to consider whether in doing anything he is doing right or wrong - acting the part of a good man or of a bad† (Plato). Socrates goes on to explain how according to Meletus’ reasoning the men who died valiantly at the battle of Troy were wrong in doing so. One of the primary complaints that Meletus levies against Socrates is his argument that Socrates has corrupted the youth by advising them not to believe in the gods. In refutation of this Socrates seems to argue that he actually embraces a belief in the gods, just not in the form that is traditionally accepted in Greek culture. Instead, Socrates embracement of the gods comes in terms of his purpose in life, which is living the examined life. In these regards, Socrates states, â€Å"God orders me to fulfil the philosopher's mission of searching into myself and other men, I were to desert my post through fear of death, or any other fear; that would indeed be strange, and I might justly be arraigned in court for denying the existence of the gods, if I disobeyed the oracle because I was afraid of death† (Plato). Here Socrates is indicating that since God has made his purpose that of a philosopher, then the core element of his existence is to live the examined life, so that ultimately Meletus’ claims that Socrates has corrupted the Athenian youth by expounding on the knowledge he gained from living the examined life is erroneous as he has done this out of following the purpose God or the gods placed him on Earth. While this is an interesting rebuttal, perhaps the most notable element of this discussion is the relevance it holds for the current examination of the examined life, and the importance contextualizing Socrates perspective in terms of the argument. While the prevailing wisdom of individuals only cursorily familiar with Plato’s statement through Socrates that the unexamined life is not worth living generally understand it to mean that Socrate s is speaking to all individuals; they believe that Socrates is stating that any individual who chooses not to live an examined life, or the life of a philosopher is unjustified in doing so, when in actuality Socrates is indicating here that this is true only for him. As the Apology continues Socrates keeps with this line of reasoning, and seems to expand his earlier statement to include all men. In considering Socrates’

Things Fall Apart Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Things Fall Apart - Essay Example The fact that he has three wives in and of itself illustrates his misogynistic nature and attitude. He is terribly cruel to his son Nwoye, as he feels that Nwoye is not masculine enough and that he is feminine and weak. Nwoye begins to behave in more masculine ways to please his father Okonkwo, as anything less is simply unacceptable and can lead to a beating from his father. Okonkwo is a portrait of dominant male ideology as he causes his family a great deal of pain and suffering because of this ideology. Okonkwo is rarely able to display emotion and is depicted as first and foremost, seeking to be masculine and in control. He is depicted however, at one point in the story, as a concerned parent, when he ventures out looking for Ezinma, after she is taken by Chielo. The reader also sees throughout the piece, Okonkwo’s difficulty in dealing with change in his environment, especially from a racial point of view. White men are coming to his village and living among his clan, only to cause Okonkwo to feel threatened and then to finally feel defeated. This is understandable as the white settlers only seek to change the ways and beliefs of the natives of Nigeria. These expressions of anti-colonialism seem to reflect the ideas of Achebe as well, as a prevailing theme surrounding the colonists seems to be their inability to speak the language of the tribe. This is ultimately what prevents them from understanding the ways of the tribe. Interestingly, as much as Okonkwo opposes the whit e man and his religion (Christianity), his son Nwoye converts to this very religion. Certainly, this is an illustration on the conflicts that arose during colonization. The white men brought their religion and beliefs to the Igbo people, and certainly Okonkwo represented the institution of tradition and culture. Further evidence of this is the fact that Okonkwo participates in the death of Ikemefuna, the sacrificial boy from a neighboring village

Tata Motors marketing strategy Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Tata Motors marketing strategy - Coursework Example The suppliers have little bargaining power over Tata Motors (Morrison, 2011). The suppliers include companies selling metals, tires, radios, air condition units, and other accessions to Tata Motors. The suppliers include companies offering different accessories Tata Motors. A large number of competing suppliers prevents one supplier having significant control or influence over Tata Motors’ choice of suppliers. In the short term, the suppliers’ bargaining power has a favorable effect on Tata Motors. Tata Motors can choose a supplier that offers the best quality product or service. In the long term, the suppliers’ bargaining power has an unfavorable effect on Tata Motors. The suppliers may unite to offer an industry-agreed price for the products. The new competitors’ threat is insignificant (Clark, 2010). With the high entry barriers, entities are discouraged from entering Tata Motors’ current vehicle market. One of the high barriers is the required h igh investment amount. Another barrier is the high India import duty rates. A third high barrier is the need to adapt the imported motor vehicles to India’s dilapidated poor road conditions. The fourth barrier is the high-temperature level’s damaging effects on the new competitors’ motor vehicles. The substitutes deliver lesser transportation quality and service than Tata Motors. The use of slow men-carrying Palanquin transport is not practical. The use of the Bullock cart is unrealistically slow. The horse carriage is slower than the Tata vehicle.
