The poet's observation is really about the way the garbage men look at the well-paid people and the way the rich people look at the garbage men when waiting at the traffic lights. This poem is about two garbage men and two posh office people in the Mercedes who stop at the same traffic light at the same time on the same day. The main reason I enjoyed this poem was because of the description of each person in the poem.
